Ian Andrew

Ian comes to the STTG as the delegate for Stratford Voice (representing some 600 members) of which he is a committee member.

Also now retired from approximately 50 years as a Human Factors Engineer, he is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Human Factors and Ergonomics.

He is also still Secretary of an international ISO expert working group, ISO TC159/SC4WG9, specialising in haptic and tactile interaction, a post held on behalf of the UK’s BSI for the past 10 years, helping to write standards and guidelines in that area.

His background is, briefly:

M.Sc. from Production Engineering Dept., Cranfield University, specialising in Ergonomics & System Design;

EMI Electronics Ltd, Military Projects Division, Feltham;

EASAMS Ltd, a systems study company, part of GEC, Camberley & Frimley;

British Railways Board, Marylebone, specialising in design of locomotive cabs (HST & APT) and signal boxes, eg London Bridge;

CIDP (Consultants in International Distribution Planning), Yateley;

IBM UK Laboratories Ltd, Hursley. on displays. Chairman of the European Computer Manufacturers’ Association committee on human factors;

IBM UK Laboratories Ltd, Warwick, on software usability and project management;

Ministry of Defence, MoD(N) Portsmouth and DERA Farnborough & Malvern.
